Is today decision day?

This is perhaps one of the biggest weeks for the Obama administration.  Clearly, the ObamaCare Supreme Court decision is top of mind.  We will find out the ruling on that either today or Thursday of this week.  (More on that in a minute.)  But the Washington Post also points out that this week Congress is forced to act on bills relating to federal student loans and the highway bill.  But wait!  There’s more!  Also this week the full House is supposed to vote on whether to hold our corrupt Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over some documents related to Fast and Furious.

What fun!

But the ruling on ObamaCare is definitely the headline.  There are four different outcomes we can anticipate from the ruling, as outlined by the Wall Street Journal:

  • Scenario #1: The entire law is upheld.
  • Scenario #2: The insurance mandate is struck down, but the entire rest of law stays.
  • Scenario #3: The mandate and two related provisions are struck down but the rest of the law stays.
  • Scenario #4: The entire law is struck down.

If you want to understand what each of those scenarios entails, you can read the Wall Street Journal article

But no matter what happens (and I’m thinking it’s going to happen later this week)  there will be a common theme from the Obama administration and Democrats: Republicans and Mitt Romney want to deny health benefits to millions of Americans.  Think about it … even if Scenario #1 occurs and the entire law is upheld (which I think it unlikely), Mitt Romney would still probably campaign on repealing ObamaCare as part of his Day One agenda as president.  Constitutional or not, it’s still a bad law.

But if any other scenario plays out, the Democrats will try their best to claim that Republicans are denying Americans healthcare benefits.  Now, which benefits will they highlight?  The two benefits that they will highlight ad nauseum are allowing children to stay on their parents’ health benefits through age 26 and preventing health care companies from denying coverage to new customers with medical conditions.

Meanwhile, what the Democrats will never tell you is that certain health insurance providers like Aetna, Human and United Healthcare say that they will allow children to stay on their parents health insurance through age 26 regardless of whether or not ObamaCare remains in place.

I love this … the Media Research Center keeps track on media coverage and loves to highlight the hypocrisy of the media when covering different administrations.  In this case, they have come up with a list: If the networks cover the Supreme Court decision to overturn ObamaCare the same way they covered ruling during the Bush administration, this is what we could expect:

  • When quoting the Justices’ opinions, the networks should tilt two-to-one in favor of the anti-administration side.
  • Soundbites from outside experts should also tilt heavily in favor of the Court’s opinion by a 3-to-1 margin.
  • The decision should be cast as a “rebuke” and a “slap” at the administration.
  • The networks should not air one second of coverage casting the Court’s decision as ideological or politically-motivated.
  • Only about ten percent of the coverage should discuss potential negative consequences of the Court’s decision.

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath.  Just remember that Barack Obama is the product of a media love-fest and to rebuke Obama or his policies is a direct assault on those who crowned him our savior (the ObamaMedia).
