From a political standpoint, if Mitt Romney and the Republicans might actually be better served if the Supreme Court were to uphold ObamaCare.  This would give the Republicans a solid campaign platform: If I’m elected I would repeal ObamaCare on Day One.  However, that is just the political angle.  Practically, and for the purposes of our Constitutional integrity, keeping ObamaCare intact would be an affront to the values of our Republic and a massive boost to the cause of an omnipotent federal government.  A government-run healthcare system would only serve the purpose of expanding our entitlement society and making tens of millions of additional Americans completely dependent on Government.

But then again, what do I know?  After all, we are now dealing with a ruler .. yes a ruler .. who has little regard for the rule of law.  Yesterday he preached to a crowd in Atlanta that the “American people fight for what’s right.”  What’s right and what’s constitutional are two different issues, Dear Ruler.  Then he went on to say that the “American people understand that we’re not going to make progress by going backwards. We need to go forward.”  Ah, there’s that “forward” word.  Obama’s campaign slogan.  The question is, forward to what?  The answer is forward to more government regulation and control over your healthcare.  The more power and decisions that are resigned to the government, the less are in your control of your own life.  Sadly, many Americans are probably OK with this because to be in charge of their own healthcare is too much of a burden on them.  Self-reliance is no longer valued, so long as we have moochers and looters who will keep politicians in power to renew their benefits.

But Obama did say something that Republicans need to take to heart, and I kind of fleshed this out yesterday in Nealz Nuze.  Obama says that we can’t go backwards on healthcare.  He’s right about that.  We shouldn’t go backwards and I don’t think that the Republicans want us to go backwards.  So then the question remains: how would the Republicans take us “forward?”  And this is where the Republicans have managed to be colossal failures.  They’ve know that this ObamaCare decision was coming down the pipeline for quite some time.  Did they not anticipate that maybe they should have a plan in place and ready to go in case the whole enchilada falls to pieces?  Sadly, it’s really not that hard to come up with alternatives to ObamaCare.  The essence of the plan would be allowing the free market, the private sector, to do what it does best.  Reduce regulations regarding selling health insurance across state lines.  Reduce regulations regarding what benefits are required to be sold … well-coiffed men in Connecticut shouldn’t be forced to purchase a health insurance plan that covers for hair transplants!  Increase the availability of health savings accounts.  These are just some of the many starting points for a GOP plan for healthcare reform.  Thus far Romney has failed to present an easily understood statement as to where he would go from here.  Someone needs to be working on that.
