The gay marriage brouhaha

Here we are, less than six months out from the most important election of our lifetimes and we are focusing on … gay marriage!  Due to a strange set of circumstances, the issue has dominated the new cycle this week: From Joe Biden’s comments over the weekend, to North Carolina’s vote on Tuesday and now with Dear Ruler’s decision to proclaim his feelings on the issue.

Yesterday I had the turbos twisting in the wind over my comments about North Carolina voters.  Perhaps I’ll share some of that rant again on the air today, because lord knows I love to get people’s thongs in a wad .. especially the turbos!  Gawd, get a sense of humor and quit taking yourselves so seriously.  The fact is that a married gay couple living down the street from you isn’t going to make a damned difference in your life.  So get over it.  And I hate to tell you this, but God loves the gay people just as much as he loves you.

Whew!  They hate it when I say that.  In a moment I’ll share some of the hate mail we got from these so-called Christians, but right now let’s talk about Dear Ruler.  Barack Obama.  Caesar Obammus.  Our “sort of a God.”

Now … what is the difference between a “flip-flop” and an “evolving opinion?”  That one’s easy.  Republicans “flip-flop” and Democrats “evolve.”  Actually – I’m glad we now have this distinction thanks to Obama’s “evolving” thoughts on gay marriage.  Never again will Democrats be able to accuse a GOP candidate of a “flip flop” with a straight face.

Anyway … Caesar gave an interview to a friendly reporter yesterday during which he  proclaimed that his evolutionary thought process has brought him to the enlightened point where it is now his personal belief that same sex couples should be able to get married, but that it was up to the states to decide.

Wait?  Did I hear that right?  Did Obama actually support state’s rights on this issue?  Uh oh.  Doesn’t everyone know that even the whispered utterance of the words “state’s rights” is proof positive that you’re a raaaaaaacist and that you want to return to the dark days of Jim Crow?  Oh .. so now Obama supports states’ rights.  Do you think Al “the liar” Sharpton will call him a racist?  That’s what Al had to say about  those tea partiers who support states’ rights!  Al, of course, will shut the hell up on this one.  There’s no white-black conflict to exploit; except, of course, if one wants to suggest that Obama’s white half was in conflict with his black half on this issue.

Actually --- maybe we can push that thought a little further.  Whites generally support gay marriage to a far greater extent than blacks and Hispanics.  Perhaps we can suggest that Obama evolved over to his white side on this issue.
We can make it a white guy talking about state’s rights.  Maybe that could flush Sharpton out of his burrow.

Moving right along …here is part of what Dear Ruler had to say on the issue.

“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

HOLD ON!  WAIT A DURNED MINUTE HERE!

Did you hear that?  Read the quote again.  Does anything blatantly narcissistic stand out to you?  Did you hear anything that might suggest that Obama is a self-important megalomaniac?  How about this: “When I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf …”  On my behalf??

Oh my!  Here I thought these soldiers were fighting for their country!  I thought they were fighting to keep us safe .. fighting for freedom … fighting to keep their fellow soldiers safe!  Now we learn that they were fighting for BARACK OBAMA!  “Wow!  Look at all those soldiers, sailors and Marines out there fighting for ME!  I was driving around yesterday when I heard this statement.  I immediately called Cristina and had her save the audio … this is one for the books.  As Charles Krauthammer said last night on Fox News … “Could you imagine Dwight Eisenhower saying that those troops who landed on Omaha Beach were fighting and dying for him?”

How about a few definitions … a cut-and-past job from Wikipedia:

Megalomania

Etymology

The word megalomania is derived from the Greek words "μεγαλο": megalo-, meaning large or great, and "μανία": mania, meaning madness, frenzy. The first attested use of the word "megalomania" in English is in 1890 as a translation of the French word "mégalomanie".

Proposed distinction from narcissism: Bertrand Russell

A quotation by Bertrand Russell gives his interpretation of megalomania: "The megalomaniac differs from the narcissist by the fact that he wishes to be powerful rather than charming, and seeks to be feared rather than loved. To this type belong many lunatics and most of the great men of history."[5]

You get the picture ….

Moving right along, without getting the issue of what should be defined as “marriage,” let’s talk about the political implications of this.  Historically this makes Obama the first sitting president ever to accept gay marriage.  It was bound to happen eventually and .. let’s face it .. it was bound to be a Democrat.  Great.  Chances are that the LGBTQ community was already voting for Democrats to begin with, but this could be good to at least get them to the polls for Obama in November.  In other words, it generates enthusiasm and may even get Obama a few more votes as a result.  But will he lose votes?  How about black voters?  Are you kidding me?  I don’t think that Obama needs to worry about losing the black vote.  So no harm done there.  I mean, the guy is a freaking Marxist and black voters will still vote for him.  You think that gay marriage is going to be the issue that breaks them?  Oh, is term one raaacist too?

Like I care.
