James Clyburn

It didn’t take long for Jim Clyburn to back-peddle out of this one.  Did you catch what he had to say yesterday about Mitt Romney and Bain Capital?  He actually compared the business practices of Bain Capital to rape.  He told MSNBC, “There’s something about that enterprise that I have a problem with. And there’s something about raping companies and leaving them in debt and setting up Swiss bank accounts and corporate businesses in the Grand Caymans. I have a serious problem with that.”

The White House has already condemned the use of “rape” in the conversation as “inappropriate.”  Though, the White House should realize that this isn’t the first time Clyburn has spoken out against Romney.  Just last month he likened Romney to a “foreign despot” for having Swiss bank accounts.  Anyone who calls Barack Obama a foreigner is immediate labeled a “raaaaacist” because they are pushing the idea of Obama being an “other.”

And since the point of this Nuze item is to highlight civility in politics, that brings me to the next story about the piñata incident.  A video is circulating of South Carolina AFL-CIO president Donna DeWitt hitting a piñata with the face of SC Gov. Nikki Haley on it.  The incident apparently took place at her retirement party.  She says she has no regrets.  I’ll bet.
