A few goonion stories in the news …

Wisconsin

A week from today we will know the results of the Wisconsin re-election effort of Scott Walker. Somebody needs to inform Kenny G Wasserman Shultz that she should not be making that big a deal out of this. While she is calling this recall election a “dry run” for Obama in November, others in the Democrat party have tried to downplay the election. This is because they are pretty much sure that their efforts will fail. Why? Well for one, because they’ve put up Tom Barrett to challenge Scott Walker. Just read this article and you will understand why voters would be hesitant to vote for this man. He has no real ideas for what would be good for Wisconsin as a whole, and exists solely to be a butt boy for the labor unions. He says that his first task as governor would be to “restore the right to organize and the right to bargain.”

Teachers Unions

If you will recall, last week Mitt Romney laid out a plan for education reform. Part of that speech included the insensitive truth about teachers unions, and I believe he got it exactly right. Teachers unions have lost their way, and their existence is purely to further their own benefits, preserve their jobs and actually educate children if they can do so without interfering with their primary purposes. Romney even brought up this quote, which I’ve told you about, from the long-time president of the American Federation of Teachers: “When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of children.” Anyway …. so in retribution for those heinous comments by Romney, the National Education Association has enlisted 10,000 of its members to work to re-election Dear Ruler.

Teachers unions to recall Bobby Jindal

In Louisiana, the teachers unions are spearheading an effort to recall Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal. You see, a few months ago, I told you about the incredible school reforms that Bobby Jindal has managed to implement in his state. The overall gist is that Jindal’s school reforms hinge on more competition and parental choice … two things that are absolutely despised by the teachers unions! So this weekend they are holding a petition drive to recall Bobby Jindal. Fat chance this is truly going anywhere.

Someday perhaps a significant number of parents of school-age children will come to realize that the most dangerous single institution in this country is the teacher’s union … the very people to whom these parents send their children to be prepared for life.
