“Thou shalt not steal. Except by majority vote.”
Gary North said that. He’s a historian. And though I’ve yet to see North weigh in on this election .. that pretty much explains what has happened.
So many people have been credited with so many different quotations regarding what happens when people figure out they can use their votes to take stuff away from other people. Some of those quotes, like the one attributed to Alexander Tytler, are false. Others, like those attributed to Thomas Jefferson, can be verified. The quotes, whether accurately attributed or not, are true. This was a “gimme election.” A huge percentage of the voters on the winning side went to the polls with one thought in mind: Which one of these candidates is going to give me the most stuff. They have no thoughts on foreign relations, how to grow the economy, how to pay off our debt, how to insure a prosperous future for our children. Their thoughts were focused on how much money the government will take away from productive Americans and give to them.
The reality is sinking in. It is almost impossible to believe that the voters actually passed up someone with the successes and abilities of Mitt Romney for the demonstrated failures of Barack Obama. But gimme, gimme, gimme pretty much explains it.
Neal Boortz chronicles his 42 years of talk radio in his book "Maybe I Should Just Shut Up and Go Away" Available on line and printed from Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
