First … know this. It’s not about raising revenue. It’s about punishing the wealthy. Obama was raised to believe – and believes to this day – that people only become wealthy by oppressing, exploiting and taking advantage of others; unless, of course, you’re an athlete or an entertainer. His obsession over raising taxes on the high-achievers is born of a desire for revenge rather than a need to raise revenue.
There was no better illustration of Obama’s obsession for punishing the wealthy than his appearance years ago on Charlie Gibson’s TV show. Obama then, as now, wanted to raise capital gains taxes. Gibson told Obama that history shows that increases in capital gains taxes generally result in a reduction of capital gains tax collections. Obama told Gibson it wasn’t about raising revenue, it was about fairness. Are you hearing this? Obama didn’t care about the revenue! He didn’t even care if the government got LESS revenue. His focus was on making sure that the people who earned that money were forced to give more of it up.
Resentment of high achievers is not going to grow our economy and restore America’s economic vitality.
Elections have consequences.
