The War on Christmas

From now through Christmas, I think we need to chronicle the stories of what I like to call the war on Christmas.  These stories are plentiful because there never seems to be a dearth of people who are seeking two things: Power and attention.  Couple that with some politically correct Bolshoi and you are in for a Christmas punchbowl filled with unpleasant foreign objects.  Here are two of our latest findings ..

Atheists cry foul over ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’

Charlie Brown’s Christmas is on the outs at an elementary school in Little Rock, Ark. — at least among atheists who are calling foul over a planned student trip to see a stage production of the beloved Peanuts story.

Jesus Christ 'should be downplayed in school'

Schools (in the UK) should downgrade Christianity in assemblies for a more “inclusive” multi-faith approach, say religious education advisors.

Very little of this is about genuine and honest feelings about one’s children being exposed to Christmas and Christianity.  It’s about power.  We live in a society – a world – dominated by celebrity worship.  You can become a celebrity in many different ways.  You can display actual talent in a field, or you can wield power in some spectacular way.  If you lack special talents, wielding power is going to be your road to the celebrity you so covet.  Perhaps the best path to that is to use the courts to pursue some false grievance, and the easiest path through the courts for this purpose is the religion path.  Just start spouting “separation of church and state,” a phrase, by the way, which does NOT appear in our Constitution, and hire a lawyer.  BAM!  Instant celebrity!
