Less Educated Electorate

This may explain a few things …

The electorate that voted in 2012 was literally dumber than those who showed up to the polls in 2010.

If the same electorate that turned out to vote in 2010 had turned out to vote in 2012, then President Romney would be planning his inauguration as you read this column. But the electorate that showed up in 2012 was very different. It was much younger, much more diverse and significantly less educated.

Only 12 percent of the electorate were 18-29 in 2010, but they made up 19 percent of the electorate in 2012. And while whites made up 77 percent of the electorate in 2010, they made up just 72 percent of the electorate in 2012. The percentage of college-educated voters also fell, from 52 percent in 2010 to 47 percent in 2012.

A few things to note.

1. The 2010 election was a mid-term election and is less likely to bring low information voters to the polls … which is exactly the type of voter that turned out in 2012 and handed the election to Democrats.

2. The 2010 election was a banner year for Republicans, gaining them a historic number of seats in the House.  The people who voted that wave into office were more educated than the ones who re-elected Dear Ruler and put more Democrats in the House and Senate.  (Though Republicans like Todd Aiken and Richard Mourdoch did their part in Congressional Democrat gains).

3.  With four more years of Obama the teachers unions will have all that much more time to fight against school choice .. which will mean a continuing dumbing-down of the voters – and pretty much seal the deal for the election of more Democrats.
