Talking About Welfare? That's Racist!

Former Gov. Ted Strickland must have felt like he had gonads the size of grapefruits after delivering his speech Tuesday at the DNC.  He’s the one with the clever line about Mitt Romney as Santa Claus, firing the reindeer and outsourcing the elves, or some combination thereof.

So he goes on NBC and says, "I think Mr. Romney and his campaign are being terribly dishonest. They're accusing the President of gutting the work requirement out of welfare. He knows it's not true and yet he continues to spend a lot of money spreading that lie. Quite frankly, it is a lie."

A lie, eh?  Obama’s own Government Accountability Office begs to differ.

The Obama administration circumvented federal law in announcing it would waive the work requirements in welfare, a GAO review found, saying that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) should have submitted the new policy to Congress for review …

“[T]he Information Memorandum is subject to the requirement that it be submitted to both Houses of Congress and the Comptroller General before it can take effect.”

If there was no change to the work requirement, why would Obama be required to submit the change to Congress before it can take effect?  How can he “circumvent federal law” if he didn’t do anything, as Democrats claim?

But Strickland wasn’t finished.  Naturally, the conversation about gutting welfare work requirements led to race.  When asked by NBC if the GOP welfare ads are targeting white voters, Strickland responded: "I think it's not so subtle racism … You know, they don't really want to come out and say certain things. In my judgment, I'm speaking for myself, not for the Obama administration."

What more can you say, folks?  We knew the race card would be played this time around in a big way to compensate for Obama’s failures.  By the way, the majority of welfare recipients in this country are white.  Racism?
