The conventions are over.  Now it is the great push until November.  It may be a little soon to tell how much of a bump Obama got from the DNC (remember, Romney hardly saw any).  But what we are seeing is pretty indicative of politics these days.

Each side is claiming that it came out ahead after the conventions.  People who are actively engaged in politics will ardently defend that their side has more momentum.  As for everyone else …….. crickets.  There are still plenty of people out there who either aren’t paying attention and don’t care, or people who are truly not yet made up their minds.  I cannot, for the life of me, understand who falls into that last group.  If you are somewhat aware of what is going on, but you can’t figure out that Barack Obama has been a SCOAMF, then voting for Obama will get you exactly what you deserve.

Maybe it’s because politics has become so negative.  Or maybe it is because of the recession and pathetic “recovery” have people focused on their families and not on politics.  This is why it will be truly hard to tell who will win in November.  The election will be won by the side who can get those apathetic voters to show up to the polls.

No .. I didn’t watch Obama’s speech last Thursday.  I knew Eric Erickson would be watching and taking notes, and he was going to be doing the show on Friday, so let him bear that burden.  But I did try to read the speech.  It was agonizing.  Excuses and promises.  Nothing more.  Golly, this has been hard, but I promise to do better, though I can’t tell you how that’s going to happen.

It didn’t take but about 10 paragraphs of Obama’s speech before the glaring hypocrisy started to shine through.  He talked about his grandfather in Patton’s army, and his grandmother building bombers.  Hey .. that’s fine.  But his book wasn’t titled “Dreams from my Grandfather.”  It was his father who had the profound influence on his life, and his father did not like America .. not even one little bit.  It was his mother, not his grandmother, who had major sway in his life; and his mother despised America.  And when he did finally end up living with his grandfather – after his mother sent him to Hawaii from Indonesia to escape the influences of a step-father who was becoming more pro-American – it wasn’t the saga of Patton and America saving Europe from Hitler in World War II that Barry Obama learned about – it was a the Marxist ideology of his grandfather, Stanley Dunham’s friend, and Obama’s soon-to-be new mentor, Frank Marshall Davis.  Funny how those things didn’t make it into the speech.

I loved the part in Obama’s speech where he talked about trivial things becoming big distractions in an election.  Oh really? You mean like Romney’s dog?

Then there’s the part where Obama says everybody should play by the same rules.  You mean the way YOU played by the rules when you set bankruptcy law aside to protect the auto worker’s union in a reorganization of General Motors?

Oh .. and the part about Romney wanting another round of tax cuts for millionaires.  Excuse me .. but isn’t Romney proposing a 20% cut in tax rates … ACROSS THE BOARD?  You mean we’re ALL millionaires?  Who knew?

And then, Barry old Buddy, you talk about raising taxes on those evil millionaires and billionaires.  Since when does earning $250,000 a year make you a millionaire?  Those are the people you are targeting with your tax increases.

You know .. I’m finally coming to realization that all of this doesn’t count for a damned thing in this election.  Sure – you can tell the story of how Obama was a dedicated Marxist when he arrived in America in 1979 to attend Occidental College.  You can talk about the fact that he never held a private-sector job, prepared a business plan, or hired and fired one single employee before he became president.  You can list the lies until you run out of paper.  You can tell people that the top one percent of income earners earn about 18 percent of the income but pay almost 40 percent of the income taxes until you’re blue in the face.  You can vividly illustrate the fact that Obama has ruled through one tactic, and one tactic only --- divide the nation and take one side against the other.

None of this matters.  Nobody’s paying attention.

Not to be a smarmy “I-told-you-so,” but I told you so.  I started telling you in 1994 – when some talk show hosts were talking about the end of liberalism – I told you that the Democrats – the liberals – the progressives – the socialists, fascists and Marxists – would be back, and when they once again got control of the House, the Senate and the White House, they would move with blinding speed to get as many more Americans dependent on government programs for their standard of living as possible – and that it would quickly reach the point where the people who consume tax money would outnumber and outvote – from that point on – the people who actually worked and paid the taxes.

We are there.

Food stamp use up.  Welfare work rules decimated.  Unemployment benefits expanded. Easy access to a lifetime of Social Security disability benefits --- all carefully engineered and brought about just to increase that government dependency that results in votes for Democrats.

We are there big time.

This year I fear that there are more people voting for the express purpose of gaining access to your wallet than there are people voting to preserve freedom and economic liberty.  The moochers, leaches and parsites – and the looters who derive power form them – have gained the upper hand.

Obama’s entire economic growth plan centers around one thing … raising taxes on the rich.  He has no other plans.

To sell this economic plan you will hear phrases carefully filtered through Democrat focus groups

You’ll hear the term “millionaires and billionaires” over and over again.  The goal here is to feed on class envy.  Obama wants the voters to be thinking “Yeah .. those millionaires and billionaires just have too much money .. Obama says so .. and they’re not paying their fair share of taxes – cause Obama says so … and they don’t pay as much taxes as their secretaries pay … cause Obama says so … and I’m going to vote for Obama because he’s going to take that money away from them that they haven’t been paying on taxes and he’s going to give it to me.”

I heard the Obama campaign tactic explained perfectly this morning by Kate Obenshain, the author of the new book “Divider in Chief.”  Obama uses the classic communiter organizer tactic.  You identify an enemy, then you gather and solidify your support by painting that enemy as a danger to them … and you hammer that theme, and nothing else, incessantly.

Obama identified the rich … the evil rich … the “millionaires and billionaires” as the enemy of the middle class; and he has driven that message home to his constituency every single day of his presidency, and has doubled down in this campaign.

Y’all need to cheer me up.  You need to tell me that the makers are going to show up at the polls in greater number than the takers.  I need to believe that for every mindless Hollywood star who slobbers over the ballot while voting for Obama, there will be three hard-working Americans who will never walk a red carpet voting for a return to economic liberty.  I have to believe that for every moocher talking about her “Obama money” there will be three working mothers voting for lower taxes and more economic growth .. growth that will help them raise their families free of government oppression and interference.

The people who are motivated to work hard and make the difficult decisions for their families need to be motivated enough to vote – and to take a reluctant but like-minded voter with them to the polls.

I’m nervous .. more for younger Americans like my granddaughter than for me.  This whole thing could go town the toilet.  We have to remove Obama’s hand from the lever.
