Romney tax returns

Some Democrats are now taking this Romney comment to the next level.  One of those Democrats is none other than Harry Reid.  How great would it be to wake up the day after the election and read the words “Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid”?  Just saying … anyway, so I want to highlight what Harry Reid had to say on the floor of the Senate yesterday in response to the video of Mitt Romney commenting on the 47% of Americans who don’t pay any income taxes.

For all we know, Mitt Romney could be one of those who have paid no federal income taxes.

Thousands of families making more than $1 million pay nothing in federal income taxes each year.

Is Mitt Romney among them?

We’ll never know, since he refuses to release tax returns from the years before he was running for president.

But from the one return we have seen, we know Mitt Romney pays a lower tax rate than middle class families thanks to Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island tax shelters.

Don’t ya love it?  The Democrats have managed to turn this back on the issue of Mitt Romney’s tax returns, pushing the idea that Romney could have paid nothing in taxes!  This goes back to that stunt they pulled over the summer.  Remember this one?  The Obama campaign suggested that Mitt Romney was a criminal for how he handled his transition and investments from Bain Capital.  They came up with this line,  “it’s impossible to know for sure because Romney refuses to release enough information to let people make their own judgments.”  So we had a little bit of fun with #impossibletoknow on Twitter.  This is the same scenario, Harry Reid telling us “we’ll never know” if Mitt Romney was one of the 47% of Americans who didn’t pay income taxes.  Oh and by the way, Romney has never paid a lower tax rate than middle class families.  I’ve done an excellent job of debunking that Bolshoi in the past, so no need to rehash .. just read this!

By the way, Princess Pelosi was out there on the same day pushing a similar line.  She told the Today Show, “What Governor Romney said here was disparaging to our whole system, our whole system, which is that we are a sense of community. Many of the people he is talking about not paying taxes include thousands of millionaires not paying taxes.”
