Sequestration Scare.

By Neal Boortz

The deadline is Friday, and this is pretty much all the news you’re going to get this week.  No wonder sports talk radio is growing.

What’s the deal?  Unless the congress acts there will be cuts in both military and domestic spending.  How deep are the cuts?  About 2.3% of our total budget.  We would have to get by on 97.7% of the current spending level.

First … know this.  Who is raising the most hell about sequestration?  That would be Barack 0bama.  And who came up with the idea of sequestration?  Again, that would be Barack 0bama.  This was HIS idea.  Even some respected liberal journalists are reminding us that this is 0bama’s idea.  The Republicans didn’t come up with this.  Dear Ruler did.  Now he’s railing against it and laying the blame at the feet of the Republicans.  Go figure.  But that’s 0bama’s MO.

So .. just how deep are these cuts?  Well 0bama, through his control of the Executive Department, gets to direct a lot of spending.  So when one of his agencies, the FAA, for instance, has to cut back on it’s spending plans, 0bama has a degree of control over where the cuts will be.  0bama, it seems, has decided that he will work to make the cuts as draconian as possible.  Here’s an example:   For years the FAA has wanted to get rid of NDB navigation beacons.  The FAA would like to get rid of these antiquated systems.  Pilots seldom use them any more.  Most airplanes have RNAV, GPS, VOR and other systems that are more accurate and much easier to use.  But it seems that when the FAA proposes decommissioning these NDB beacons congressmen in whose districts these things are located start raising holy local hell.  Now I don’t know how much these beacons cost to operate, but if you’ll remember my rants on the dollar bill savings plan, every spending cut – every dollar saved – adds up.  But does Obama tell us that if the FAA funding is cut he’s going to get rid of these antiquated NDB beacons?  No.  He tells us that control towers will close and aviation safety will be compromised.

Does 0bama tell us that the spending cuts, as small as they are, are going to mean that the IRS is going to crack down on Earned Income Tax Credit fraud?  That the IRS is going to start prosecuting people who claim non-existent dependents in order to steal money through the EITC?  No.  He says that poor families will suffer and won’t have the money to pay their bills.

There have been stories in the past few weeks in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about fraud in the WIC – Woman’s Infants & Children’s – program.  Some grocery stores are ripping off the taxpayers big time.  Does 0bama propose tighter enforcement of the WIC program in response to the cuts?  No.  He says that women and children are going to go without their food.

Does 0bama say that the National Parks Service is going to stop wasting money replacing  windows in Park Service buildings that have been abandoned and are not in use any more?  No.  He says that access to these Parks may be restricted or curtailed.

Obama is a scaremonger.  He is more about frightening people and demonizing Republicans than he is about leadership.

Federal spending per person in this country has increased about $890 per person since 0bama took office.  On a per-person basis, what would sequestration mean?  It would mean a reduction in the increase of per-capita government spending from $890 to $870.  A $20 decrease.

Let’s say you budget $200 a week for grocery shopping to feed your family.  How would sequestration hit your grocery budget?  Try $4.60.  That’s less than a pound of coffee.  One frozen pizza.  Give me a big-time break.

Some more details?

George Will points out that the total dollar amount of the spending “cuts” under the sequester would be less than one-half of what the government spent to bail out AIG.  Did we close access to national parks when we bailed out AIG?  Did we close any FAA control towers?

Under 0bama the budgets of federal agencies have increased by 17%.  If the sequester runs its course they will be cut by 5%.  Does that sound like the end of the world to you?  Really?

Again … I remind you.  Don’t ever forget that video they showed at the Democrat National Convention.  Remember what we were told in that video?  “The government is the only thing we all belong to.”  After the convention adjourned that evening delegates were questioned leaving the building.  They talked about how wonderful it was to be owned by the government.  No!  Really!  But then again, these are Democrats, as is their Dear Leader.  If you belong to the government then it stands to reason that all that you produce belongs to the government.  Democrats think that the government does a much better job spending your money than you do.

So … stand by for the scare tactics.  The sky is falling!  We cannot endure a 2.3% cut in a budget that has doubled under 0bama without bodies in the street.  Sadly, most Americans will buy into these lies.
