Do we have any reason to believe John Boehner?  In his speech yesterday as the new House began, he focused on the importance of reducing our debt.  Here’s a little bit of his speech …

Our government has built up too much debt.  Our economy is not producing enough jobs.  These are not separate problems.

At $16 trillion and rising, our national debt is draining free enterprise and weakening the ship of state.

The American Dream is in peril so long as its namesake is weighed down by this anchor of debt.  Break its hold, and we begin to set our economy free.  Jobs will come home.  Confidence will come back.

We do this not just to boost GDP or reduce unemployment, but to secure for our children a future of freedom and opportunity.  Nothing is more important.

Not to boast, but my version was a little bit better, but that’s probably why I’m NOT Speaker of the House.

Now maybe you haven’t read the speech I would have delivered yesterday as Speaker.  So … tell you what.

Here’s the link for my speech.  It’s in this section of yesterday’s Nuze.

Here’s the link for Boehner’s speech

Read the two.  Tell me which one you would have rather seen delivered to the new House of Representatives yesterday.

Well, at least Boehner did acknowledge our debt.  But then again, Barack Obama also talks about the importance of reducing our debt and deficits, and yet look at his track record.  I find it hard to believe that anyone, including the weak-kneed John Boehner, is truly capable of cutting the size of government.
