Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre holds nearly 4,700 people. Saturday night every seat was filled for the Boortz Happy Ending. My friends of 40—years, Banks & Shane, provided the musical entertainment, and many friends from broadcasting and other fields showed up to have a bit of fun. From The Mothership, News-Talk WSB in Atlanta we had Clark Howard, Jamie Dupree, Scott Slade, Capt.Herb Emory, and Erick Erickson (also of CNN). My replacement, Herman Cain, was also there. From the WSB-TV side we had our emcee Chuck Dowdle and former legendary anchor Monica Pearson. Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh (by video) were there, and one of the highlights of the evening was comedian and good friend Jeff Foxworthy. Jeff also brought some paper plates on which another friend, Larry the Cable Guy, had written a few farewell notes to me. Larry’s a mess.
Yes .. a video was made of the entire event. No … I have no idea what, if anything, will be done with that video. I’m told it was made for “archival purposes.”
At any rate --- there is no possible way I can thank the people who bought tickets to this event, and the friends who showed up to participate in my Happy Ending. It was truly the night of a lifetime. I’m collecting as many pictures as I can which my daughter will surely put into a wonderful scrapbook.
I want to especially thank Cox Media Group and the Cox Foundation for the $20,000 check --- $1,000 for each year I worked for Cox --- to Investing in People, the Donna Boortz Foundation. Thanks also to the people who quickly scarfed all 700 of the copies of Maybe I Should Just Shut Up and Go Away that I donated to Donna’s foundation. She collected well over $15,000 in donations for those books. You will not believe the wonderful things she will be able to do for people in desperate straits with that money.
We’re attaching some links to picture galleries for the Saturday night event. One is actually a video … a video of me singing “Desert Pete” with Banks & Shane. Try not to laugh too hard.
My thanks to Elizabeth Azar of WSB-TV, who produced the entire event, for a wonderful job. If you were there and saw that video of me on the beach in Naples … right at the start of the video there’s a flatbelly in s thong bikini on a lounge chair by the ocean. That’s Elizabeth. The video, by the way, was shot at the Naples Ritz Carlton. Finest hotel in Florida.
